WEAVINGS OF THE PAST

Born in the heart of Scotland, Ballantyne's heritage evokes the excellence of quality cashmere and the art of timeless yarns. Here, between tradition and innovation, historic fabrics narrate our deep roots and an unparalleled artisanal craftsmanship.

Ballantyne's journey begins in 1820, when Henry Ballantyne opens his first production company, laying the foundations for a textile dynasty rapidly expanding thanks to the tweed trade. From generation to generation, the company embraces new horizons, exploring fabrics such as tartan and wool, up until 1921, the year that marks the official birth of D. Ballantyne Brothers & Co. thanks to Ballantyne's nephews who wanted dedicate themselves entirely to producing cashmere knitwear.

TRADITIONS TO PASS ON

These are golden years, marked by a rapid expansion and innovation impacting the field. Ballantyne becomes a synonym of luxury, receiving illustrious recognitions such as the Queen's Award in 1966 from her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. The brand becomes the emblem of aristocratic elegance, celebrated worldwide.

The following decades see a sustainable growth, with additional Queen's Awards reinforcing the brand's prestige. In 2004, Ballantyne arrives in Italy following an acquisition by Charme Investors, headed by Luca Cordero di Montezemolo and Maurizio Canessa who instill new vitality favouring a creative rebirth. Canessa's early passing represents a new challenge for the company, overcome only in 2013 with the arrival of Fabio Gatto. Today, as President and Creative Director, Gatto is able to merge Italian elegance and Scottish heritage by creating garments which blend past and present, defined by values such as timelessness, durability and craftsmanship.

The Italian savoir-faire mixes with the exclusive Scottish tradition, preserving and cherishing a story which continues to inspire and will be passed on to future generations.
